Please read the products and manuals overview below.

Products

Current NSI products are only 3 zJOS-XDI products which are bundled in a single package. You can each product, but you must install the whole package. Once the package is properly installed, all 3 products are in expired status. You need to activate which product you are going to work with. Obtain genlevel information from zJOS control panel as shown below on your TSO in which you are administering zJOS-XDI and send it to us for activation key generation.

Copy-paste genlevel information as indicated in above picture and send it us.

Current update level of zJOS-XDI package is at version 2 release 1 and modification level 9 (V2.1.9), which was done in first quarter 2009. The main purpose of the update was to resolve some incompatibility between z/OS V1R9 and earlier releases/levels. Nevertheless, the support to earlier z/OS releases is also retained. This V2.1.9 has also been successfully tested on z/OS V1R4, V1R5 and V1R7.

Previous certified update level was V2.1.3. As V2.1.9 has been proven covering all V2.1.3 supported environments, NSI then stopped supporting V2.1.3. Below are downloadable zJOS-XDI packages of both update levels.

Although in fact zJOS V2.1.9 works properly up to z/OS V1R12, the coming of z/OS V1R13 inspire us to move up our products. V2.2 is now under development. Meanwhile, some new internal portions are very tempting to be applied soon. So, finally we decided to apply them in V2.1.9 pac13141.

Main changes of pac13141 is in scheduler database handling. The structure and algorithm were enhanced to shorten some iteration paths and reduce the use of cross memory ECB post/wait between scheduler in zJOS address space and its agents in each scheduled workload address space. It reduces agent overhead.

 zJOS-XDI V2.1.9 pac13141
This release is certified for z/OS from V1R4 up to V1R13. .

Once you upgrade to pac13141, you won’t be able to return to pac10001 unless you keep the latest backup of your scheduler database. Pac13141 will automatically convert existing database into V2.2.0 database format. Just to meet standard of fall back procedure, the easiest way, use ADRSSU backup/restore disk to disk.

 zJOS-XDI V2.1.9 pac10001
This release is certified for z/OS V1R4, V1R5, V1R7 and V1R9.  .

 zJOS-XDI V2.1.3
This pack is only applicable for z/OS 1.4 up to z/OS 1.7 and no longer supported.

Note regarding INSTALLX Rexx

zJOS V2.1.9 Pac13141 Ptf13281 Notes

The base Pac13141 is actually Pac10001 with Ptf13141 and Ptf13251. But it has never released since a bug was discovered in ptf13251. So Ptf13281 was developed to supersede some part of Ptf13251 which already merged with Ptf13141 and Pac10001 as Pac13141 base.

Beside to accommodate internal changes of z/OS up to V1R13, Pac13141 with Ptf13281 is a bridge to zJOS V2.2 which currently under development. Highlight of this level includes:

  1. Fixed some bugs on previous level.
  2. Reduced scheduler agents overhead on each scheduled workload by enhancing database structure and associated algorithm which – reduced the use of post/wait ECB – shortened some logical path length – reduced the number of concurrent subtasks.
  3. Enhanced database recovery system
  4. Enhanced user interaction capabilities of control panel – adopted most of zJOS SSI commands – added interface to issue console command – added DSR/DSA commands to DSR/DSA status
  5. Enhanced interaction capabilities of scheduler log panel – added ONLY command to filter view

INSTALLX – Use the right one

You are strongly recommended to update your existing zJOS with this pac/ptf level. Please take a note that you must use the latest INSTALLX rexx every time you apply patches. Each release of pac/ptf always accompanied by the latest INSTALLX. Ensure you have deleted all existing INSTALLX before you run it.

When INSTALLX is running, there hundreds of messages rolling on TSO red screen. Please read carefully. You are using wrong INSTALLX unless the following box is appear:

Enhanced USER INTERFACE in CONTROL PANEL

As it is a new feature, it is not documented yet in the manual. But it came with a set of interactive help panel which guide you every time you do wrong thing. Now, you don’t need to go to console or SDSF panel to issue zJOS SSI command. Though the old way still available too. You can even issue ordinary console command from zJOS control panel, just like SDSF. Prefix it with / (like SDSF) and the panel will send it to console subsistem. At the moment you won’t see the respond. Not as perfect as SDSF, but, you are at least facilitated to do it.

DSA/DSR Commands

This is to see DSA/DSR status while scheduler is running. Picture below show the response when DSR command is issued. As it is limited to view area on 3270 screen, so most of information appear as symbolic codes.

You can also zoom the detail of specific dataset by issueing DSA or DSR command followed by selected dataset. When DSN TEST.BNI.MSG.XMI issued, you will see the response as shown below.

The purpose of this facility is to give you a chance to trace when you feel any DSA or DSR unexpectedly done by scheduler. Who is disturbing the process and what is going on. By familiarizing all the symbolic codes, hopefully this facility help you.

Scheduler Log Enhancement

Below is an example of response to ONLY RUN command. Only running jobs are appeared on the log.

You can also issue ONLY WAIT, ONLY ERROR, ONLY DONE or ONLY INACT to select which one you want to view.
